Kersi Lord, one of the finest musicians of the Indian Film Industry, was known most for his proficiency with the accordion. Following the footstep of his father Mr. Cawas Lord, he too opted music as his career. Counted as one of the closest associates of legendary R.D. Burman, he contributed in evergreen tracks like "Dum maaro dum" and "Chura liya hai tumne". A recipient of Dadasaheb Phalke Award, he was an inspiration for many.
Born on February 14, 1935, Kersi Lord came from a family of musician. Son of famous Indian percussionist Mr. Cawas Lord, he while accompanying his father learned to play many musical instruments which added to his advantages at later stage of his life. Being a multi-instrumentalist he had sound knowledge of musical notes and so was an ideal choice for new generation of music directors of late 1960s and early ’70s. He was one of the close associate of late of Rahul Dev Burman. He for sometime also worked with Laxmikant-Pyarelal. Kersi also attended many concert tours of Kishore Kumar and Asha Bhosle. In 2010, Lord received the Dadasaheb Phalke Award for his contribution to cinema. Suffering from age-related illnesses, Lord passed away on 16th October 2016. He was 81. His death was mourned by his celeb friends, fans and followers. His funeral was held at the Parsi Crematorium in Worli.
